At Vidin Was Taken, we’re constantly looking for ways to improve—not just in the designs we create, but in how we make them. When it came to our jeans labels, we knew the traditional leather option didn’t align with our values. So, we began exploring alternatives that would allow us to stay true to our commitment to sustainability while offering something unique to for our customers and also a signature element for our items.
Our journey to develop an innovative label began with a challenge: many manufacturers were hesitant to collaborate with us due to our unconventional approach—focusing on Made-to-Order items. When we couldn’t meet the high minimum order requirements for our initial label design, we saw an opportunity to innovate. Rather than sticking to traditional methods, we chose to explore a creative solution using the materials we already had in our Atelier.
By repurposing leftover raw denim and HTV (heat transfer vinyl) from previous projects, we discovered a way to create something entirely new. This idea led to the development of a sandwich-like material. By layering these recycled components, we created a label that not only serves a functional purpose but also tells a story. The HTV is precision-cut with our branding on the surface, providing a sleek design element than denim is added for strength and texture, while also offering a subtle view of the garment’s interior. Below these two, we added a third and fourth layer for thickness and another secret element for additional durability.
The result is a 5-layer construction, with each layer pressed and bonded together, producing a thick & robust-feel material. This combination gives the labels a premium touch while remaining completely sustainable—an innovative solution that is new to the market. It’s not just about being eco-friendly; it’s about embedding innovation into every piece we create.
Our approach allows us to transform what could have been waste into something valuable, with the multiple layers giving the labels a rich texture and substantial feel that set them apart from traditional options. This process is a key part of our future, as we continue to push the boundaries of sustainability and design. The sturdiness and texture of our labels are deliberate choices—they add a unique, final touch to each of our products.
While the final outcome is subtle, the process behind it is what makes it special. Every label is carefully crafted from start to finish by our hands, ensuring that it reflects not only the craftsmanship we value but also our respect for the environment.
We believe that fashion should be thoughtful at every stage, and these jeans labels are just one example of how we’re working to make that happen. We hope that those who appreciate the finer details of how clothes are made will see the care that went into developing this alternative.
This is more than just a solution—it’s how we’re shaping our future. With each step, we remain committed to innovation & sustainability, staying true to our vision.
